Unpack in the right order
Start with your essentials box: kettle, bedding, toiletries, chargers and anything you will want on the first evening. Then do beds and bathrooms, so you can sleep and wash comfortably, and work through the rest room by room.
Check for damage as you go
Look over your belongings as you unpack, and tell us promptly if anything has been damaged. Our insurers state that damages must be reported within 7 days of the move. Put it in writing and include photos, so it can be dealt with while the details are fresh.
Box collection
If you would like, we can arrange to collect flattened boxes once you have unpacked. Just let us know when you are ready.
The admin that follows a move
Some of this is a legal requirement, so do not leave it too long.
DVLA: you must update your driving licence, and your vehicle log book if you are the registered keeper. You can keep driving while your new documents are sent. Tell DVLA you have changed address
Council Tax: tell your old council or the council for your new area that you have moved. Council Tax on GOV.UK
Electoral register: you need to register again at your new address. Register to vote
Royal Mail: redirection runs for 3, 6 or 12 months and can send mail to any UK or overseas address. Check Royal Mail for current prices and delivery times. Royal Mail redirection
Everyone else: your employer, bank, insurers, HMRC and your GP.
